Lyrical Mash-Up Interactive Typography
Three songs, three female artists, all under three minutes. I created an interactive typography piece that lets you remix lyrics by flipping and rearranging hand-cut cards. The whole thing comes housed in a custom-constructed box designed to look like a 7" vinyl record because, honestly, what else would you put remix cards in?
Each artist gets their own distinct typographic treatment so you can follow individual lyric threads or read it as one cohesive mash-up. The backs feature clear ink on bright yellow-green with sequencing numbers if you want to follow my original intended flow, but the real fun happens when you ignore those completely and create your own combinations.
For my Experimental Typography class, I wanted to push boundaries with different fonts, scales, layering, and textures. These songs had an edgy, raw energy that I tried to capture in the design itself. The result is intentionally a little messy, busy, and loud. Sometimes the best way to represent a rock song is to let the typography rock too.
The 13th card serves as your liner notes with all the original artist and song information, keeping everything above board while still encouraging creative chaos.
